I’m currently working on two different paintings in my home studio and one at Artists on Main. I like to work on multiple pieces at the same time and move from one to the other so I never get bogged down. Since I have no newly completed work to share and am sticking to my committment to blog at least once a week, I thought I would share a painting I completed last year. This is one of my favorite paintings and it sold last September at the Goodlettsville Arts and Antiques Festival. I was granted permission to use the reference photo (see below) from my friend Rachel who just so happens to be a fantastic photographer (check her out – rachellynnphotography.net or facebook.com/rachellynnphotography). If you have perused my Facebook page or the gallery on this site, you will notice I have a thing for flowers.
When I saw this photo, I just knew I had to paint it. What immediately captured my eye is that the subject is off-center and just a portion of the sunflower is shown. I also love that you can really see and appreciate some of the fine detail in the sunflower’s center and the rich colors of the petals. I tried to capture all of these attributes in my painting and had so much fun with this piece.
